As soon as I type the last period on this entry, I’m going to change my cellphone welcome message from “Roma” to “Cambodia.” I know, I know, it sounds stupid, but it's sort of this big symbolic move for me.
“Roma” has been on my screen since late 2006 when I was accepted to the study abroad program there. Everytime I turned on my phone, I was welcomed with a plug for what was to come and when I returned, it was a small but poignant reminder of what was before.
And now, I’m doing the same.
Cambodia.
